Taxi Rates in Toronto

The official Toronto Taxi Rates can be found out by using any online taxi fare calculator. There are plenty of websites that offer such a calculator for free. This becomes useful if one wants to find out the exact fares for going from one place to another. The fares are regulated and determined by Municipal Licensing and Standards Unit, Taxi Division of Toronto, Canada. Presently, the passengers have to pay about 25 cents for every 170 metres.

However, there are some changes that are set to take place in the current Toronto Taxi Rates. The per kilometre rate of the taxi fare is set to increase. From 25 cents for 170 meters, it is probably going to go up to 25 cents for every 155 metres. Some taxi services also offer flat rates for special services like airport destinations, parcel delivery and out of town trips. Every taxi is bound to have a copy of the rates list pasted on the back of the driver’s seat.

For most services, Toronto Taxi Rates do not count if the meter is out of order. This is done to help protect the rights of the passenger, as he might be unfairly charged by the cab driver. For up to four passengers, the rate is fixed at 3 to 4.25$ for the first 0.143 kilometre. With every additional passenger in excess of four, an extra of 2.00$ will be charged, and with every kilometre travelled in excess of the first 0.143 kilometre, 18 – 25 cents will be charged. Lesser Toronto Taxi Rates can be charged but never more, as per the rule set by the regulator.

The waiting charge is about 25 cents for half a minute or so of waiting. Extra charges will be made for airport travels or parcel deliveries. The minimum charge per trip in such cases will be about 10$. Toronto Taxi Rates do not increase for wheelchairs, including the loading and unloading done by the driver. However, very heavy items like trunks and other objects will not be covered under the present tariff and such rates should be chalked out by discussion with the taxi driver.

There are fixed Toronto Taxi Rates for longer distances, so it is profitable to travel longer distances in this city by taxicabs. From the Pearson airport to Central Toronto, the fares are 50-60 Canadian Dollars. The meter rate will be applicable if the fare is less than the flat rate.
